Ash Chawla - Recipient of Community Service Award in Cleveland

Ash Chawla, MS, RPh, Chairman & CEO of PDM Healthcare & Avani International, was honored for his contributions to the arts by Shiva’s Dances International on September 22, 2007. The Community Leadership award was presented to Ash during “Yatra – a Journey,” an annual multi-cultural arts and dance recital organized by Shiva’s Dances.

Ash was recognized not only for his philanthropic support of the thriving arts community in Northern Ohio, but also for his philosophy of applying creativity and arts to the business setting.

An entrepreneur at heart, Ash founded PDM Healthcare in 1991 and Avani International in 2003. Ash’s pioneering “out of the box” strategies for new business development in today’s dynamic healthcare environment have made him an internationally respected, leading force in the healthcare industry.

As a former photographer, Ash has a deep interest in art and has found innovative ways to incorporate art into the business world.

Via PDM Healthcare, Ash initiated another important event to Cleveland by introducing a national medical convention, “PDM MedExpo & BioLink” each year. To make this event truly enjoyable for the community, Ash produces a live entertainment show that debuts at the event. Ash’s vision and talent resulted in the production of two Cirque du Soleil style shows in Cleveland in 2003 and 2004, followed by two live Bollywood dance theatre shows: “Shakalaka Bombay” in 2005 and “Tauba Tauba Ishq!...Passion for Love” in 2006.

These events were smash hits and generated great interest from the community. In fact, due to its marketing success, Playhouse Square invited Ash to take a lead role in promotions for the Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bombay Dreams run in Cleveland in March 2006 which he did by sponsoring the Opening Night of Bombay Dreams.

Ash’s creative vision in mixing art with the business world has set a new trend in the convention industry and created a new brand of meetings, where business and networking are accomplished and participants are rewarded with innovative, artistic entertainment productions in a sophisticated environment.
